Most small cups are just that — small cups. These stand on a proper turned foot, a rounded bowl lifted on a stem, so the little after-dinner pour gets a vessel that treats it like an occasion. Thrown and turned by hand from Ukrainian red clay, finished with fire and milk rather than glaze, and no two the same.

Held by the Stem, Which Matters

The foot is not just decoration. You hold a cordial cup by its stem so your hand's warmth stays off a chilled or delicate drink, and the wide base keeps it steady on the table when it's set down full. Turn one over and you'll find the concentric rings the tool left on the foot; run a thumb up the bowl and the throwing lines are still there under a matte, faintly warm surface.

Where the Pattern Comes From

The markings are the signature of milk firing. Each cup is fired hard, then coated in milk and fired again — and in that second heat the milk scorches into the porous clay, darkening where it pooled and staying light where it ran thin. Nobody draws it; the kiln does. Which is why your six cups arrived at six different patterns from the same clay, and why a replacement would never quite match.

What That Means When You Drink

No glaze, no lead, no synthetic lining — nothing between the drink and fired earth, so a delicate liqueur keeps its own character and picks up nothing from the cup. The clay wall takes temperature slowly, so a cool cordial stays cool through a small, unhurried pour. And the milk seals the surface from within, so the cup holds liquid while still feeling like clay in the hand.

Materials

Natural red clay, fired hard — the colour is iron in the body brought out by heat, not paint. The milk-fired finish is the only surface treatment, and it is food safe. Unglazed, breathable, and free of glaze, lead and industrial coatings.

Care

• Hand wash only — never the dishwasher
• Rinse soon after use, especially after sugary liqueurs
• Soft sponge or cloth; baking soda for anything stubborn
• Avoid strong detergents, which porous clay can absorb
• No soaking
• Dry fully before stacking or storing
