A small wheel-thrown clay cup, milk-fired to a deep dark brown outside and lined with a smooth, food-safe black glaze inside. It holds 180 ml — a proper small coffee or tea — and weighs next to nothing, which makes it as easy on your desk as in a LARP kit. Each one is thrown by hand, so no two are exactly alike.

This cup pairs two techniques, one old and one practical. The outside is thrown by hand on a wheel from natural clay, then milk-fired the way potters worked before glazes existed — coated in milk and passed through fire until the surface seals into warm, deep brown tones. There's no paint and no stain; the color is the fire's own.

Run your thumb across it and you'll feel the ridges circling the body. That pattern isn't applied decoration — it's the mark of the wheel, the rhythm of the maker's hands caught in the clay and fixed by fire. Inside, a smooth food-safe black glaze seals the surface, keeps coffee or tea tasting clean, and wipes out easily.

The form is small and round-bellied, sitting comfortably in the hand — bare or gloved. At 180 ml it's a deliberate size: a real serving of strong coffee or tea, not a token sip and not a tankard. And at just 124 g, it's light enough to carry to a reenactment field or a fair without weighing down your kit.

Every cup is centered by hand and fired twice. If a piece fails in the kiln, it's gone — so the one that reaches you came through the fire whole, and no one else owns this exact cup. It looks like it belongs in a great hall and works on your kitchen shelf, because it does both.

Please Note

Every cup is thrown and fired by hand, so tone, ridging, and surface vary slightly from one piece to the next — that variation is part of the milk-firing and the wheel work, not a flaw. Colors may also look a little different on your screen depending on lighting and display settings.

Why You'll Love It

  • Milk-fired outside, food-safe glazed inside — character and practicality in one cup
  • The deep brown color comes from fire, not paint or dye
  • Ribbed wheel lines you can feel — the maker's hands left in the clay
  • A glazed interior keeps drinks clean-tasting and the cup easy to wash
  • A deliberate 180 ml size for a real small coffee or tea
  • Very light at 124 g — easy to carry to a fair or pack in a kit
  • Wheel-thrown and fired by one maker, never twice the same
