A hand-built tan clay mug with a carved geometric band around the body and a smooth, food-safe white glaze inside. It holds 400 ml and sits comfortably in the hand — made for tea, coffee, warm milk, or mead by the fire. Inspired by village pottery and tavern drinkware, with engraving done by hand, so each one is a little different.

Not all medieval drinkware was dark and smoke-stained. Much of it was plain village pottery — light earthen clay, a simple solid shape, and a band of carved ornament cut by hand. This mug follows that older, folk tradition.

It's shaped from natural clay in a rounded, full-bellied form that settles into the hand, with a small footed base and a simple loop handle. Around the upper body runs a hand-engraved band — rows of crosses and triangles cut into the clay before firing. The pattern isn't printed or stamped; it's carved by hand, which is why no two cups carry it exactly the same way.

The clay is traditionally fired, leaving a warm light-tan surface with a soft, natural feel. Inside, a smooth white glaze seals the surface — food-safe, easy to clean, and a bright contrast to the earthy exterior. The result is a mug that looks the part on a rustic table and still handles your everyday coffee without fuss.

Use it for tea, coffee, warm milk, or mead — cozy evenings by the hearth, a reenactment table, a Renaissance fair, or a themed gathering. It carries the spirit of a medieval tavern while staying practical enough for daily use.
