Not all medieval drinkware was dark and smoke-stained. Much of it was plain village pottery — light earthen clay, a simple solid shape, and a band of carved ornament cut by hand. This mug follows that older, folk tradition.

It's shaped from natural clay in a rounded, full-bellied form that settles into the hand, with a small footed base and a simple loop handle. Around the upper body runs a hand-engraved band — rows of crosses and triangles cut into the clay before firing.
