A wheel-thrown red clay mug carved by hand to look like a hooped wooden barrel, milk-fired the old way and holding 400 ml. It's made for medieval and fantasy lovers, reenactors, and LARP players — but it's just as at home holding your morning coffee. Food-safe, unglazed, and never twice the same.
Somewhere between a potter's wheel and a tavern cellar, this mug found its shape. The body is thrown on the wheel, then carved by hand into the look of a small coopered barrel — staves of wood grain running between raised hoop bands, with rows of little rivet-like marks where the iron bands would sit. The handle carries its own carved detail, a small leaf motif worked into the clay.
It's made from natural red clay and finished with milk firing. After the clay is fired in a high-temperature kiln, it's coated with milk and fired again — a method potters used long before glazes existed. The milk reacts with the surface to seal it and bring out warm, earthy brown tones, leaving a breathable, unglazed finish that feels alive in the hand. Because the firing reacts differently each time, no two mugs come out identical.
The result looks like it was lifted from a shelf behind a five-hundred-year-old bar, but it holds a modern cup of coffee just as well. Use it for tea, coffee, herbal drinks, or mead — or stand it on a shelf as a piece of your medieval, Viking, or rustic interior. At 400 ml, with room to 480 ml at the brim, it's a comfortable everyday size with the character of historic tavern pottery.

Please Note
Every mug is wheel-thrown and carved by hand, so texture, tone, and carved detail vary from one piece to the next — that variation is part of the milk-firing and handwork, not a flaw. Colors may also look a little different on your screen depending on lighting and display settings.
Why You'll Love It:
- Carved by hand into a hooped-barrel look, down to the rivet-like detail
- The warm brown tone comes from milk firing, not glaze
- A breathable, unglazed surface that feels natural in the hand
- A 400 ml everyday size that suits coffee and tea as well as mead
- A carved leaf motif worked into the handle — a small maker's touch
- Wheel-thrown and finished by one maker, not pressed in a factory
- No two mugs share the same surface or shade
