Two Mugs, Two Rituals
Coffee and tea aren't the same drink, so why drink them from the same mug? This set pairs two — a small, ribbed coffee mug for the short strong morning cup, and a taller, rounder tea mug for the long afternoon one. Both thrown by hand in our Ukrainian workshop, milk-fired outside and glazed inside, made to sit together on the shelf and get used at different hours.
The Coffee Mug — Small and Ribbed
180 ml, the size of a proper coffee rather than a bucket of it. The body is wrapped in fine horizontal cord-ribbing that catches the light and gives your fingers something to hold, tapering to a neat base. It's the cup for an espresso, a cortado, a strong black morning coffee — the kind you drink hot and don't let go cold.
The Tea Mug — Large and Round
400 ml, with a full rounded belly and a smooth dark surface. It holds a proper mug of tea, a long coffee, or cocoa on a cold evening, and the wide body keeps the drink warm in the hand. Where the coffee mug is upright and ribbed, this one is soft and round — the two read as a matched pair precisely because they aren't identical.
Milk-Fired Outside, Glazed Inside
Both mugs are finished the same way, and it's built for hot drinks. The outside is milk-fired — coated in milk after the first firing and fired again, so the surface darkens to a warm russet and seals without glaze, keeping that raw rustic character where your hand rests. The inside of each mug is finished with a smooth dark glaze, so it holds heat, wipes clean, and gives you a sealed surface where the drink actually sits. Rustic where you hold it, practical where you drink from it.
